Ed DMing 5e. Me, Scott Will, Steven. Last session, our characters and a bunch of ape myrmidons sailed to Pelican Island and started to explore a mine (possibly a mine for some radioactive material). At the end of the session, we approached what we suspect is a sizable lizard man settlement. Scott's owl familiar scouts ahead, but it flies into a wall. Zoozeki sends his blue footed booby familiar instead. The booby hears some gutteral speaking, which Zoozeki thinks is Draconic or some lizardman offshoot. They seem to be talking excitedly about outsiders coming. We go down, the booby proceeding us. The booby sees twelve lizard men in a circular room there's a beaded curtain on the south wall. A passage also to the north and another to the east. Smudge struts boldly and knowingly into the lizardman ambush. All the lizard men stab at Smudge with spears but only one hits for half damage. Smudge turns invisible and teleports into the passage past the beaded curtain. Half the lizard men charge up the stairs. Kristabell cuts a couple lizard men in half with her flaming sword, Rayhault. The ape men kill a couple more lizard men. Kristabell kills a couple more. One of the lizard men flees, but one remains. Zoozeki casts flaming sphere on him and a couple of the apes throw spears at him, killing him. Meanwhile, Smudge sneaks away, down the corridor past the beaded curtain, and finds a hidden passage. He come back to meet up with the rest of us. Kristabell finds a secret door leading to a spiral staircase down. Heat rises from it. We go down it. There's a river of lava. And asbestos. Zoozeki _polymorphs_ himself into a small, fire-proof salamander. He swims down the lava river and scouts. Near the split in the lava river, there's a cave/passage. There are stairs down. There's dried lava debris, like some creatures have been moving through here, carrying lava bits. It's a bit cooler down the stairs. The passage branches several ways. The passages are built/hewn, not just lava tunnels. I go back up to the split in the lava river. On the west passage, a detailed picture is carved into the rock. It shows a lizard man killing a tiger man. On the east passage, a carving shows human riding a pterodactyl with a tiger man, killing a lizard man. Zoozeki swims a ways down the east passage. There are more carvings, one showing the tiger men fighting humans riding pterodactyls. Another shows an army of lizard men driving the tiger men in direction and the humans in a different direction. In the background, ships disappear into the background, heading perpendicular to the sun, with the sun at their left. The lava eventually flows into an underground water river.
